Monitor all the position changes of your desktop icons. Integrate the utility with your taskbar and choose one of the available snapshots preserving the configuration of accessible elements based on their creation date and time. Receive notifications each time you decide to create a new snapshot.

Keeps track of the icons on your Windows desktop, and restore their positions when Windows messes them up.
It quietly monitors the changes happening to your desktop icons, such as when you move them, or add, delete, or rename an icon. When a change is detected, Icon Shepherd takes a snapshot of the icon positions and remembers it for you. If something happens and the icons become all messed up, you can use Icon Shepherd to restore the icon positions from a previous snapshot, with just a couple of clicks of the mouse.

On my computers, Icon Shepherd does not wait for a screen change before it takes a snapshot of the icon positions and remembers it. The app takes a snapshot every few minutes. I have been unable to find a setting to slow down the frequent snapshots. That has been happening for years. I have finally decided to stop using Icon Shepherd.

Icon Shepherd does work a charm and is a great fix for the Microsoft Windows icon moving problem. If your icons randomly move around your desktop, then I would recommend you install this genuinely good application.

The 4/5 stars, however, is because of why I had to delete Icon Shepherd. As good as it is, Icon Shepherd did NOT like my double monitor (laptop and monitor) and would always switch the 2 screens around repeatedly, making my PC unusable for the first 5 minutes after it booting up. I thought it was a problem with the HDMI cable, however it was the application that was unfortunately the issue. Just a heads up for any future double monitor people out there! A great application nevertheless.
